It is the only type of tonearm that will give the user peace of mind - no overhang means no tracking error. Otherwise we will always be listening to the variation of the tracking error ...
Some funny pivot tonearms had a system of levers to position the cartridge for null tracking error during playback AFAIK were never a success.
Unfortunately micro linear trackers have their own issues, belt type has steps and air type's sound is variable with pressure, not to mention air coloration. Everything is a compromise!
