And a note about the taxi drivers. They sometimes don't acknowledge with a yes after you told them your place of destination. Like you say HMV, Causeway and once your door is closed, ZOOM! The guy speeds off without you knowing whether he heard you or he heard you right. But normally, it's positive for both counts. :D Worse than that is you tell him 'Exelcior Hotel', and he looks at you with a very puzzled and hard 'HUH ?' look. They understand English that is more of the Hong Kong accent of which Russell Peters does a very good imitation. :D (Like Land Mark is not Land Mark, but Lan Mahk).:D That's why a calling card preferably with Chinese words is good. I did better and asked around what the Cantonese name of Excelsior is and I tell the cab driver, with supreme confidence 'Eee Tong'. And boy, his face showed he knows it, sometimes with a nod, and zoom he goes. I feel better that way. :D

Good advice, Phil. When you land at the airport, call the hotel and ask them what the name in Cantonese is. If you don't think you can get your tongue around that (to Westerners much intonation of the Chinese pronunciation sounds the same), use the speaker phone and let the hotel front desk tell the taxi driver. Even I have trouble with the names of hotels at times!!!

However, the Grand Hyatt should be easy. Just day Grand Hia Yatt.

We won't be doing anything outdoorsy anyway so it shouldn't be a problem. What day are you flying out Phil?
