In the 70's my entire being was skateboarding, my stick went with me everywhere I went including church.
There used to be a skate park across the street from Disneyland called The Concrete Wave where I met and skated with the ultimate Freestyle Champion of the time Russ Howell.
At the time I was very anti-freestyle, I was, and still am a pools/ditches and pipes guy but Russ was phenomenal at what he did. Russ always was and still is the consummate ambassador for the sport.
He is keeping Freestyle alive.
This video clip blew me away on how far free-style has come over the years, check out this talent and the music isn't half bad either. These guys are amazing.
You can skip past the first few minutes of Russ talking. By the way he was the 360 champion for many years.
If you have not seen the documentary Dog Town and Z-Boys, you need to. I have skated with those guys too, and was more my style of skating. I just made the choice not to get into heavy drugs like many of them did. R.I.P. Jay Boy Adams.
The two clips at the end is more my style, and note I am not in any of these videos and as soon as my knee is rehabbed form surgery I am off the Arlington skate park to check out their pipe.
