I haven't seen it yet but I rely on members opinions and reviews here at WBF. All I can say is that opinions on this film are all over the map here.

..really? I find that quite surprising..

Gavin. Have you read the reviews here. They vary from 1/5 to 5/5

..well you can put me down for a 5. My son who is definitely a SW aficionado thought it was one of the finest releases. We watched it with Chris and his foreign exchange student Griselda, a very perceptive 18 yr old who is also a Star Wars junkie. Over dinner Pam and I sat back and marveled at the back and forth regarding the craziest trivia you can imagine. Talk about a couple of SW nerds/geeks...great fun. Anyhow they both loved Rogue One...two more 5s.. :)

I do like Gareth Edwards (I thought Monsters was great), but my hopes for something that recaptures the bravado of Episode V are tempered in knowing Disney wants highly creative and unconventional helmers to make thoroughly safe and wholly conventional films (see VII). For a film that takes place in a galaxy far, far away, surprisingly, there's only two family lines who matter and only one narrative worth exploring - the same one we got in IV - VI.

Well, until they don't.

P.S. Explains why Tony Gilroy was bought on to do reshoots for Rogue One at a cost of $5 million.

Honestly, I can't work out which is worse:

That Colin Trevorrow showed such dire sensibilities as a director in taking on The Book of Henry and got fired, or that Kathleen Kennedy can't work out to how to allow directors who aren't clones of Spielberg and Lucas to take a franchise and reinvigorate it with story and character beats that aren't ripped straight from from IV-VI.

In any case, I'm guessing there'll be a lot of lens flares in Episode IX.

Sigh.
