Nothing like the sound of a naturally aspirated engine.... Every time I start mine, I get this sh*t eating grin on my face. To hell with the neighbors!!
I can't help but agree here. I have a friend with a WRX STI that has some pretty serious power. But I don't like driving it. It's not fun when you tap on the gas. The only way the thing works is to basically never let off the gas and burn the clutch to death. It might be faster than a lot of stuff, partially due to traction on the open road, but it isn't... fun.
Where as old muscle cars with a well built engine might not be as fast as some modern cars (largely traction) but at least when you give it gas you can feel your balls grow. The same can go for many new vehicles that do something similar, often N/A or supercharged.
The idea of being the "fastest" has entirely dissipated in my personal interest. It's pretty much impossible. Plus for some people it means buying an ugly GTR as the simple solution. I'd rather drive something that looks good, so I can feel good about it, than be faster. For example I'd rather drive a 300hp Ferrari F12 TDF, than a 1000hp GTR.
I've always thought it would be fun to have a small race track that's meant for multiple cars, but slightly closer to autocross. And then have 4 small cars like Datsun 510's that have no more than 150hp but can red line all day, and the rear end gear was very low so that the car wouldn't go any faster than 50mph or so... it'd be beyond fun to race that way with friends. You'd have to work hard because you are all on equal terms and
seriously pushing the limits of what's possible with what you have in order to compete.
Ok, now some porn
If you import one of these (and they cost a lot to have them truly done up right) homeland security will take it away.
