This Sunday afternoon, my wife and I attended an unusual concert at the Myerson Concert Hall here in Dallas. The program - West Side Story. However, the performance was one of the more unique in my experience. The 1961 film, digitally processed, was played on a GIGANTIC screen above the orchestra! The orchestra and small jazz ensamble played the soundtrack! Now that's a home theatre! BEST EVER! The movie looked beautiful! Vivid images and color. The voices sounded fabulous! The Dallas Symphony with help from jazz musicians from University North Texas were brilliant. I have to believe it is difficult for the orchestra to play along with the movie and keep it on time. Some of the dance scenes with the cast snapping their fingers seemed as if they were performing live with the orchestra. Quite impressive. Too much fun. Leonard Bernstein, Steven Sondheim, Jerome Robbins.. we are not worthy! The film won a thousand Oscars!

Anyone experience anything like this? Don't miss it if you get the chance.

It sounds as if this was an amazing event. In my opinion what makes events such as this so much better than anything experienced in any home theater is that is is simultaneously shared with hundreds or thousands of others.

There is nothing more powerful than live in a state-of-the-art venue with top caliber performers/artists.
That must have been awesome, wish [strike]you were here[/strike] I could have been there.

Yo La Tengo played the soundtrack for a sea creature film by Jean Painlevé at the Big Sky Film Fest in Missoula, and it was utterly amazing. (2011)
