New PD DAC

Andreas was experimenting with the prototype at RMAF and it sounded great through a Mac mini using 352.8kHz files over USB!

That's really cool, but where is an audiophile going to get 352.8kHz files to stream from their computers?

The only reason labels and HDtracks doesn't offer higher rez files is because of the infrastructure (internet speeds and server space) and demand. All I can say is it's available when they want to release it.

For HRx one purchase the files on a DVD, same here, maybe on a BluRay Disc. and the way I see things going it won't be long before 100 Mb/s to the home becomes a reality, in Japan, Korea and some Scandinavian countries this is already available so ...

Also Frantz there is the consideration of the recording studio and capability of the digital audio workstations, where many currently may still not even record at 192khz.

A classic example of what the studio can support is Linn going back to their SACD and DSD native recordings (one of a few studios that could record natively for SACD), they found that in practical terms they had to convert the native DSD to high rez PCM and convert back to DSD even in the studio.
These days they now only do high rez PCM in terms of the studio (how recorded), currently their studio masters are limited to 192khz and 24bits.

Bruce, any chance you can mention if the product is intended to be used in the pro environment and its purpose?
Sounds really interesting, even if it is currently showing what is capable in the future or with existing infrastructure.

Thanks
Orb

This will be another audiophile/consumer DAC. If I remember correctly, Andreas said it will also be capable of DSD via USB.

Are they writing the software for computers/servers to output high-res via USB? I thought that only a few companies so far had offered USB at greater than 44.1, and that they had to supply the software to allow higher resolutions to be transmitted.
