This has to be Leo's year. I have never been on the band wagon about his previous nominations but this one will be well deserved should he win as I believe he will

I don't even know the exact nominations. Just think he is an acting genius and have seen any number of Oscar worthy performances.

How was the cinematography in Brooklyn ... Steve? ...In naturalism.

And from what I've read, The Revenant was filmed in natural light. ...The Hateful Eight in 70mm (wide aspect ratio). ...And Mad Max: Fury Road highly stylized with high contrast color lenses (I would like to see it in black and white - might eventually appear too).

? Only from what I've seen so far; Mad Max had high appeal in many aspects. I would give it high merit...in picture, cinematography, sound, costumes, makeups, ...
But I'm missing a bunch...other films not yet viewed.

Well I am going to go out on a limb and make my first predictions

The Revenant.......Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Cinematography

the Revenant would seem to go against the grain for best picture...violent, brutal films typically aren't the Academy's cup of tea. but i have yet to see the film to comment further.

I disagree with you as it seems the Academy has an penchant for violent films. You don't have to go too far back when violent movies such as "Inglorious Bastards", "No Country For Old Men", "Eastern Promises", "There Will Be Blood", "A History of Violence", and "Django Unchained". They may not all win but they get nominated.

Steve
Finally saw "The Revenant" today. I wasn't nearly as impressed with the movie as the reviewers have been. I thought it was too long, about as believable as a Transformers movie, weak in dialog and not enjoyable to watch. I kept looking at my watch waiting for it to end. This wouldn't make my Top 5 for the year.

There was just something about the way The Revenant was filmed that is so good and so natural that on the big screen with great sound is why I'm making my call early. I want to know how they did that bear mauling scene.

past some added Hollywood liberties; Revenant is based on a true story.

I'm not too sure how accurate this "true story" from the early 1800's wilderness actually might be even prior to Hollywood's liberties. Those stories seem to get embellished at time goes by.

Not sure how Brooklyn was nominated for Best Picture.

Don't get me wrong, I liked the movie. Just don't think its worthy of this nomination.

Guess The Academy must be NFL Fans, they snubbed "Concussion" and its star Will Smith

I went to see Concussion a couple nights ago when my wife had her book group meeting at our house.

While its not a great movie, I have to say that Will Smith performed well in his role as Dr. Bennet Omalu. He surprised me.

I agree about Concussion but so also nothing for Woman in Gold and/or Hellen Mirren

Brooklyn IMO is definitely worthy of the nomination

For me The Martian was not worthy of a nomination.

Mad Max it seems one either loved it or hated it. Seems there are no shades of grey with it
