The best Burmester preamp is 077 with external PS. More advanced, bi-amping option, separate adjust of each pair of amps. 808 is very good but even Mr.Dieter Burmester always says that 077 ext.PS is nr 1.

Both preamps are amazing, but they sound different to each other. Before to choice I have had both in my system and evaluated/compared for some days. Personally I prefer with a wide margin the refined, color and natural tonal sound of the 808 Mk5. The way to express the music of the 808 Mk5 is unique at my ears; a timeless-stellar musical gem.

Sly, appreciate the input. Yes, I think the 077 is indeed a modern iteration of a burmester preamp..... But like roco said ,the 808 suppose to be timeless....

Rocco, does the 808's sound resemble that of a tube preamp? Is it romantic and laid back? How different is it from the 077?

Btw, burmester claim that they sell equal amounts of the 2preamps.

Hi Ozy.

The 077's is a new generation of Burmester preamps based on new technology and proprietary X-AMP 2 circuits design. The sound is oustanding, more modern but a lot different from 808's. Really difficult to describe the sound of 808 Mk5, because it has no any coloration or euphonic sweetness. The sound is like the recording content, completely grain free, absolutely linear, transparent with a stellar dynamic contrast, refinement, quantity of details, reproduced at all in best musical way where all is easy audible. It is a musical gem to listen and it is the Masterpiece preamp created by Dieter Burmester.

Rocco , thank you for your articulate description... It's hard to describe sound in general ,especially a high price like the 808 or the 077.
I like the 077 sound a lot and have enjoyed it for the past 3years.... But really curious about the 808....

Ozy, the 077's is a superb preamp that you can live with it for ever...Being curious, you have to listen the 808 Mk5....Will be surely an exciting musical experience.

Hi Burmester folks,
Finger on the trigger to buy either of the two pre amps. Any updates or latest opinion about these two preamps? I only have two to three line sources. Will partner with a 911 Mk3. Appreciate your latest thoughts. Thank you

Can’t go wrong with either, although I realize that’s not saying much and probably will confuse you more. Nonetheless, I would go with the 808mk5 if I were to upgrade from my current 088. I haven’t heard the 077 but have heard the 808 and it sounds awesome.

Anybody compared the [077+ PS] with [077]; how much is the sonic difference with the PS?
Thank you.

I can't find 077 output impedance value, and what about 911Mk3 input impedance value?
Anybody knows?
Thanks.

077 - 230 Ohm balanced output
911 - 1.9 kOhm input

The 077 will drive any amp.

If 077’s output is 230 ohms and 911.3 ‘s input is 1880 ohms, it’s a factor of 8.17. Hmm... And/But they are a perfect match
