I can order them from my Allnic Dealer. I was just wondering if there was another online supplier/source for them. They are used for the 2nd and 3rd gain stages in my phono pre.

if they are OEM spec'd......and NOS.......then Allnic likely cornered the market on them. which is why there are none anywhere.

I have a pair of the KR242's and some socket adapters. they have too much gain for the single ended GG and distort horribly.

how are you planning on modifying the GG to allow them to work? I'd love to be able to try them......even though I'm enjoying the Elrog 300b's (on the 2a3/101d setting).
Cutting the output gain?

I once has a B7 and a GG at the same time to compare the KR242. I agree it was bad on the GG, but made the delta sigma B7 close the PCM gap to the R2R GG!!!

I am not sure of the technicalities. I think the difference between them is also the different voltage settings. I was just told that both 2A3 and 242 cannot co-exist in the GG. The 242s made the B7 sound almost as good as the GG, while other valves during that AB didn't. Way better than the 101D replicas (which I liked before)

I agree about the 242 sound on the older B7...wonderful.

The different setting is 4.5w and 6.5w circuit setting. Auto compensates for voltage times current to those maximum watts.

I am going to get R2R GG with 242

thanks.

FYI.....I like my Elrog 300b's quite a bit better than the Psvane 101d WE Replicas. much more nuanced and punchy with equal or better clarity. full scale classical is to die for.

I'd love to know how my preferred tubes, the Elrog 300b/Takatsuki 274b, run on the 101d/2a3 setting......compare either to the B7 w/KR242's or a modded SE GG w/KR242's.

or....does anyone want to buy my only 'played 5 minutes' new set of KR242's with pin adapters? I guess I can't have it both ways.:(
The new KING is the EML 45 mesh globe.

Caveat...I have never heard the Px4 nor the KR300B, nor Takat nor Elroy.

I have heard NU45/KR 242/EML 45 sold, mesh and 300b, Psvane UK Design 300b (a real bargain), Psvane 101d, WE 101d ST shape, vintage 1920 245 globes, 6a3, 2a3 and a few more...

So it's better than WE 101d, and the 242?

I think these would need adapters. The Lampi version did not, but he only got very few, I think.

I will compare the 45 and 300b from KR hopefully next Saturday. I am going to customize my GG to run on their 242. That will allow me to pay all other valves except 2A3, which I don't like anyway.

Some folk just don't know their own minds ! ;)

Yes, I am sure I am not upgrading from B7 - else I will get stuck on the dac upgrade path forever without upgrading speakers etc

Still stalking me? I took that decision after I compared the GG to the Kronos Sparta in the same room at Munich.

Oh! Not Paranoia as well bonzo ;)

Curiously I was just re-reading back through another Lampizator thread and noted the more recent incongruity.

Have you any experience of the T+A DAC8 DSD ? I inquire as I have also just finished reading blue's post regarding his own considerations and preference for an sub £3K machine.

No, haven't heard that yet. But hope it's good, as I support lower cost giant killers.

I own the Kr45 tubes - they are very lovely indeed. Very quiet, very finely nuanced and hugely musical. Highly recommended.

Can they beat vintage NU 45s which you can easily get on Ebay for $100 a pair?

I can start comparing them tomorrow on my 7er.
