Can they beat vintage NU 45s which you can easily get on Ebay for $100 a pair?

Audiophile Bill is getting them with his Lampizator from Lampi direct. I will get to listen to them at some point

I honestly have no idea. I've never heard National Unions before. I haven't heard the KRs either :)

You should start stocking the Lampi ;) - then you will get to play with all these valves at their best

I will compare the 45 and 300b from KR hopefully next Saturday. I am going to customize my GG to run on their 242. That will allow me to pay all other valves except 2A3, which I don't like anyway.

I have a pair of the KR242's and some socket adapters. they have too much gain for the single ended GG and distort horribly.

how are you planning on modifying the GG to allow them to work? I'd love to be able to try them......even though I'm enjoying the Elrog 300b's (on the 2a3/101d setting).

I think the gain can be adjusted in Poland to suit them. They are a much superior version of the 101d replicas - natural, great soundstage, dynamics, etc. You will be able to play the 300s still

ok, that makes sense.....to the extent of my understanding.

right now there is the 300b setting, and the 2a3/101d setting......as choices. I assume that the difference between them is the gain? or is the difference something else and if the gain is changed then the no matter the switch settings the gain is higher for both settings?

in other words is the change in gain for one of those settings, or is it some 'global' gain setting?

my problem is I'm using the 101d/2a3 setting already for my Elrog 300b as well as liking the NU 45's quite a bit too. and I have the Psvane 101d WE Repilicas. so if I make those un-usable then that's an issue. and my currently preferred Elrog 300b's don't last long on the 300b setting.

I suppose it comes down to just whether those KR242's are enough better than my other choices to justify the change as well as the trouble and expense to ship the beast to Poland and back.

I am not sure of the technicalities. I think the difference between them is also the different voltage settings. I was just told that both 2A3 and 242 cannot co-exist in the GG. The 242s made the B7 sound almost as good as the GG, while other valves during that AB didn't. Way better than the 101D replicas (which I liked before)

thanks.

FYI.....I like my Elrog 300b's quite a bit better than the Psvane 101d WE Replicas. much more nuanced and punchy with equal or better clarity. full scale classical is to die for.

I'd love to know how my preferred tubes, the Elrog 300b/Takatsuki 274b, run on the 101d/2a3 setting......compare either to the B7 w/KR242's or a modded SE GG w/KR242's.

or....does anyone want to buy my only 'played 5 minutes' new set of KR242's with pin adapters? I guess I can't have it both ways.:(

Any B7 owner with a built in pre should just pick up your 242

Mike,

Where did you buy the Kron KR242 tubes ? Thanks in advance.

a place in the UK was the only spot I could find them.

I'm at work so I'm not sure exactly which place I got these from 6 months ago now. when I'm home later i'll figure it out. here is where it might have been as I get their email solicitations weekly since about that time.

http://www.tube-and-valve-electronics.co.uk/

they are NOS not current production so evidently quite scarce. I paid a pretty penny for them and then they did not work for me.
