Hello. I have come across what appears to be an extraordinarily rare reel to reel video tape recorder. It is an AKAI VT-100 Portable VTR. From the somewhat limited research that I have done, this machine was virtually one the first of its kind. This machine was acquired from an estate auction which contained an extensive vintage AKAI collection containing several rare recorders. I have heard this VT-100 referred to as a museum piece. Maybe I am too excited about this find and overestimating the rarity. I am just a treasure hunter and take great pleasure on delivering the public with items that would have been otherwise unseen. So I hope that this find makes someone happy and hopefully can complete or add to a collection. This VTR is going to be going up for auction at the starting price of $0.99 on EBAY starting tonight. We have already received fairly substantial offers but afraid to accept any such offer without truly knowing the true market value of this machine. I really want someone to appreciate this reel to reel for what it is and the great condition of this VTR. Our Ebay store is Fairyjunky. User name bry_law. Thanks for your time and hope this machine makes someone happy.

He ended up getting $500 for it, far more than I would have expected. I had to check, I was curious. :)

I remember looking at these, drooling over them at the local stereo store. They were $1499 CDN, if I remember correctly.

Wow. I am sure it has value as a curiosity piece to someone. He certainly did a great job of marketing it by posting on all of these forums.
