Hi there, im new here! in fact i just joined :D

ive been trying to decide which DAC is better..... i currently use a Sennheiser HD 800 connected to my Little DOT MK V headphone amp, and thats connected to my on board sound card on my motherboard.

Now, should i buy the Strix Raid DLX sound card which uses "ESS SABRE9016 Premier 8 Channel Audio DAC" and connect that to my amp

OR

should i just buy the Little Dot DAC I. which uses the "WM8740 DAC chip" and connect that to my amp.

going by spec sheets, the ESS is FAR more superior than the DAC chip inside the Little Dot DAC.

any suggestions?

many thanks!

Welcome to the forum. I don't have experience with either. But at high level, I would always opt for external DACs. That said, the Little Dot DAC-1 does not have asynchronous USB input which is a must in my book. There is also some strangeness in its specs saying it only goes up to 96 Khz but outputs 192 Khz???

yeah i was thinking an external DAC would be the better option. I wasnt planning on using the USB input on the DAC, i was actually gonna use SPDIF. so from PC SPDIF > DAC > AMP > Headphones. and the output got me confused as well..
