I agree, a great article. Great advice for in store trials. Now time to go back and get lost in the music!

Thanks for posting this link. It is always very interesting to read testimonies from well known high-end designers.

Driven by a deep thirst for nostalgia, this guy bought every envelope of Cool-aide in the store and drank it all down.

Seriously. Not that tubes can't sound wonderful; they can. But by the time the author got through his "discovery" -- the hearing of every technical argument and poetic cliche in the tube tome, there was no chance he would hear anything but what he had very methodically created his own expectation to hear. A fun read for the first couple of hundred words, but incredible, in the most basic sense of that word.

Tim ,

Did you have ever heard any think in sound reproduction you did not create your own expectation to hear?

Good article, way to long. My eyes glazed over at about 1/2 way.

I remember very well, on many occasions, my dad handing me a box of tubes and sending me down to Sav-on's and testing them. This is why I am a Solid State guy.

You did better than I. Decided that watching the first Leader's Debate of the Canadian election was more interesting.
