Truly fascinating; good for mankind, good for the spirit, good for a new habitat, good for new resources of energy...including new water from perhaps unsalted oceans?

And good for renewed values, on another habitable planet, for the people without a home. ...A new hope for humanity, and for better music reproduction in another space with better acoustics perhaps? ...Less interference in the audio signal path?

One thousand years from now and we'll be reflecting on how alienated we all were on planet Earth. ...There is so much more to discover, outside and inside ourselves.
The time we're here on our planet is the time we learn on how to take care of that time, and of each other. ...Normally.

Truly though, this opens up new territories, in an expanded thinking mind...and is a possible solution to Earth's overpopulation's and pollution's issues, ...plus all that jazz.

Thanks for sharing the good news.

Yes it would be great , a suns heat / possibly water is a furtile combination , the only problem is how do we cover the distance , ...its 1400 lightyears away???

We need lots of fuel (petrol/oil/gas/atomic energy, ...) and a big rocket ship that goes real quick, from zero to 1,400 light-years in less than two seconds flat.

We need to be working on it right away...tele-transportation...of human's molecules and of objects too; like heavy duty machinery to build new highways and bridges and skyscrapers. ...New and better audio sound systems (hi-fi). ...No more bad quality audio streaming, back to a more advanced analog medium.

We'll get there eventually, even if it'll take few thousand years; I have great hope in mankind.
We just need to persevere and be patient. ...Meanwhile we can all enjoy the music playing, ...or from the radio or from other devices of high quality.

You aint gonna make that trip on petrol /oil or gas , they need something else , but yes if you see how much tech has developed over the last 200 years i have great hopes mankind can do it maybe

I only mentioned petrol/oil/gas as a way to get rid of it all...in a humorous/sarcastic kind of way. ...We truly need to free ourselves from this cancerous type of polluting corrupting energy. ...For the best of our health...physically and mentally...financial activity that is ruining our children's children.

If we clean our air and water, by planting more trees and forests, and have electric cars and electric factories all around; then we can find much more powerful natural highly efficient resources to propel our big rocket ship. ...Non-polluting energy. ...Safe for the human bodies, for the wildlife, for all our environment.

Only when we can clean up our own room that we can start rebuilding a new one...in another time in space...faraway.
But we're on the right path...of searching for new energy resources beneficial for mankind, and without financial control/monopoly in the purpose of selfish gain rewards. ...It has to benefit all human beings living on Earth, and not just few self-centered people with a big ego and wrong attitude who are detrimental of good Earth's balance with all the people living on it.

For example; bullets and bombs they pollute the air we breathe and the music we hear. ...Plus it makes a bloody mess.

It's real cool to talk about other possible planets that we can inhabit, but it's even cooler, I think, to talk about how we can make this one more habitable first. ...Like how many people can our planet handle? ...One hundred billions? ...Less? ...Then we'd better think more seriously about water, food, health care.

The science of space is truly magic, the science of Earth is truly real. ...The space we live in.

It's good to know there is another planet we can commandeer when we are done with earth. And it's only 1400 LY away!

Nothing wrong with burning fossile fuels :D , stars do the same by burning" naturaly available ' hydrogen , its all a matter of using the energy thats available , maybe dark energy is the future :D

It seems that it was just yesterday when we didn't know any planets existed let alone one with similar size and orbit to earth.

On a less hopeful note, was watching a program on TV on life on other planets and they were saying that SETI has been trying to listen to some sign of civilization for 50 years. That 50 years from now they would have scanned the full universe and if nothing heard, it is end of the game on hearing their transmissions!

Huh? If the fastest thing we know is the speed of light and the known universe is billions of light years across, how could we possibly have received even more than a very a small percentage of the possible indications via various transmitted wavelengths from all of the universe in only 100 years?

Contrary to what some members here believe, we have not come any where near discovering/understanding either audio, or methods of interstallar communications. :)

I heard the planet is populated by giant, intelligent, lobster-like creatures that enjoy gobbling up humanoids, snapping off their heads and sucking out their brains while listening to music not unlike The Beach Boys "surfin USA". News reports of undercover sting operations have shown some trying to develop "less crunchy" methods because the sound of the heads popping off tends to freighten the humanoids still staring at their little telephone like devices, causing adrenalin surges which makes the brains congeal making them harder to suck out.

On an orbiting moon GILLCABS (giant lobster-like creatures against brain sucking) are planning protests during the coming full moon by threatening to eat beans excessively leading to higher than normal levels of CO2 in the ring surrounding the planet, causing a die-off of the humanoids who normally like to lie in the sun until nicely darkened like toasted marshmallows. This, the GILLCABS say, will put an end to the brain sucking once and for all.

That part is a constant. If we hear something today, it may be voices from hundreds or billions of years back. That we don't hear it, means that searching for radio frequencies is not fruitful. It is not like if we waited a few years it would make a difference.

There is research into aliens using lasers to communicate with nearby moons and means to be able to see such light.

How do you scan the full universe? That's a wee bit tricky...

You're right, but what the heck, we'll all be dead before that matters. :p :p :p

You don't have to fret about the 1400 LY distance. Zefram Cochrane will invent warp drive for humans in 2063.

I knew arthropods were the most successful and diverse phylum of animals, living on land in water and in the air---and now on other PLANETS!
