We just got back from 4 days in Las Vegas. I am not a gambler and never have been. We went to meet some family members from Toronto and to enjoy some good dining as well as some Las Vegas shows. Over the years I can say that I have seen just about every show on the strip and continue to have my favorites.
1. Towering way above all other shows on the strip and IMO the one by which all others need to be compared is Beatles Love at the The Mirage. I have now seen this show three times and each time it continues to leave goose bumps as well as a lump in my throat as to how great the Beatles truly were. Then to have probably the best Cirque du Soleil act in Vegas leaves you absolutely breathless. On top of this the sound is second to none as each seat has built in speakers for a true surround experience. You will leave the theater feeling that you have spent an evening with the Beatles. In fact there is one part of the show where you hear the four of them talking as they seem to appear in silhouette on the stage jumping from one spot light to the next. This show remains my number one pick
2.. Prior to my first seeing Beatles Love threee years ago my perennial favorite was "O" at the Bellagio. The Cirque Du Soleil act is like nothing you will ever see as it literally takes place in water. Some of those in the act do some feats that will truly leave you speechless. This is a show that one will never tire of and completely different in theme from Beatles Love. It is not to be missed
3. Rounding out my top 3 in Las Vegas is another Cirque du Soleil show at the MGM Grand called Ka. This too is so vastly different than any other Cirque du Soleil show as the stage which was built for the show is a one of it's kind that that cost many millions of dollars to build. The stage literally moves in all three dimensions as the performs are acting out the show. Totally different than the the other two but if you have seen Love and O then Ka is my next recommendation.
4. I name this next show not because it was so good (I would give it a 6-7/10) but rather it is new,in the recently opened Aria Hotel (which in and of itself needs a walk through as this is opulence at it's very best. The show is the newest Cirque du Soleil and is The Elvis Tribute. For those Elvis fans this is nostalgia at it's best and gives a capsule commentary of Elvis' life in 1 1/2 hours. The Cirque du Soleil part is minimal and sketchy at best but the theater is spectacular with terrific audio as well as old film of Elvis. In fact I found that through most of the show I was watching the film of Elvis most of the time rather than the show itself. Not one of the greatest shows on the strip but music is good , the theater and acoustics are incredible and the Aria is worthy of a walk through.
5. If you are into magic then David Copperfield at the MGM Grand as well as Criss Angel at the Luxor are the two to see.As good as Criss Angel is on his Mind Freak TV show his show at the Luxor drags between his illusions as it is also a Cirque du Soleil show.
