Don’t know where you are shopping, but I routinely find used 927s listed on Audiogon or Audiomart for 6-7 grand. There’s a fully restored 950 on eBay right now for 18 grand. The last fully restored 950 sold on Audiogon for 13 grand. They are much cheaper than most high priced audiophile turntables.
You're talking about the 930, which show up on Audiogon for that price. They made a lot of 930's. The 927's however don't show up on Audiogon. The 927 is the flagship, is quite huge (16" platter) and is very expensive.

The EMT turntable was widely used by the BBC for many decades. But this was the larger 950, not the 927 Steve listened to. The EMT 927 is actually fairly easy to find used, and can be bought often for much less than many current turntables. I saw a fully restored BBC 950 turntable listed once on Audiogon for around 20 grand, not unreasonable by the quality of the product.

It’s exactly the opposite. EMT 927 is much larger than 950, more famous and better sounding.

Price of restored vintage turntables may vary depending on the restoration job. A person may ask a very high price for 950 but idler drive 927 and 930st are the turntables to own from EMT, not the direct drive 948 or 950.

Here is a part of Turkish Official Journal dated 7 May 1995 about 38 (thirty eight) EMT 927 turntables used by governmentally owned Radio and Television Institution (TRT) that are going to be sold by auction. They are probably sold for a little money and scrapped. Maybe EMT took them back. Unfortunately whatever has happened to them is not clear.

If I could find an EMT 927 for 6-7 grand even in shit shape I would have bought all of them. Those don't exist, and are probably fake scam ads.
Fully functioning "restored" to proper working order start at 30K Euro.

Here is one of the top restoration places in the world for EMT 927 and 930.
