I have a studer A810 that was modified for direct head output . Am thinking of acquiring another Studer A80 R with modification to accept external preamp . May I know what is the right way to do such modification or your recommendation of how such modification should be done . My Studer A810 was modified with a 4PDT push button switch that allow switching between internal electronic & external preamp. Your recommendation is much appreciated

If you're happy with the results, follow exactly what the last tech did. If you're going to permanently use an external preamp, I'd eliminate the switch, it's just a potential for intermittent contacts down the road.

2 possibilities:
replace the whole reproamp all together and connect external to heads
hook up at R47 and tap signal after eq and first stage and hook up external bufferstage...either tubes or ss
last alternative is what Ed and Tony of Ultranalogue plays around with....
I chose the 3rd alternative for my two A80s...complete mod from Todor Dimitrov of Mastertapesoundlab in Thessaloniki Greece..includes new reg audio psu/stab board and rebuilt reproboards, rewired, recapped and all.....sounds fab and better than my all out tube buffer
best
