Regrettably, this scenario is prevalent. A salient example of the corrupting influence of money in 'research'.

It is very prevalent. Just look who was funding the "research" that came of a year or 2 ago claiming that high fructose corn syrup was just fine that was the focus of those insipid TV commercials. Gladly, it is being taken out of more and more products despite this "research".

Or you can try to rename it "corn sugar" that was rejected by the FDA.

So now we try and hide it using this deception:

There's also, the issue of the high number of HFCS testing positive for high Mercury levels.

As Mark and I were just discussing, sadly this practice exists in many fields.

Yes, as money for research dries up, scientists are forced to resort to other funding sources.

Perhaps that is why the funding for science research is drying up, to enable it to be more easily manipulated. Just a thought! :)

No that is not the reason from someone that was a scientist. The reason was Reagan.

Yes it was. Perhaps it was others who have decided they can take advantage of this opportunity and they are. All to our detriment.

When I first started and Carter was our President, NIH funding of grants stood at 40%; Reagan took over and slashed that number to 8% and it hasn't ever gotten better (unless we were talking Star Wars). Plus his mandates led to the ending of research for the sake of research; everything had to have a practical, commercial application. (Oh and you can throw funding for the arts into the same category.)

Note that that prior AND report generate a huge amount of controversy and complaint from the rank-and-file members (those pesky registered dietitians)
