Install of the update took about 3 hours going through WiFi. No issues whatsoever. Response time seems a bit faster, which is always appreciated.
This morning I was replying to a friend's email, when suddenly out of the blue, my email page disappears, and a blue screen appears with Windows 10 automatically was configuring itself, and saying to not turn my computer off! (...)
After many unsolicited offers to upgrade to W10 a similar thing happened to me a few months ago - windows suddenly started to upgrade. I think at one time I did not close the box and just told it to schedule the upgrade. It took about one hour to upgrade and find that there were no drivers for W10 my HP scanner with auto sheet feeder - it is great to scan just to the computer with a few presses at the printer screen. So I immediately reverted to W8.1 - and started to get almost daily offers to upgrade to W10. By mistake I accepted it again a few days ago, but fortunately HP has now developed W10 drivers to this scanner and I am now using W10 without any trouble.
My only concern it that I have not any physical media with the operating system - if the machine does not boot I do not have any way to repair/reinstall W10.
Can you not make a repair/reinstall disc?My only concern it that I have not any physical media with the operating system - if the machine does not boot I do not have any way to repair/reinstall W10.

Chrome may need to be updated for Windows 10 -
Check for an update and see the current browser version on your computer
Open Google Chrome on your computer.
In the top right, click the Chrome menu Chrome menu
Click Help > About Google Chrome.
The current version number is the series of numbers beneath the "Google Chrome" heading. Chrome will check for updates when you're on this page.
Click Relaunch to apply any available update.
There is a chance that the files are still there, but you just can not access them. IMHO you should ask for advice of someone knowledgeable in these matters, expose him the situation and ask him to look for your information in the disk or in the mail server. Most time users do more bad than good when trying to recover lost information. Updating and installing new programs will just make thinks less clear.I had few hundred emails with files and family pictures that I never transferred in my PC, and now all those are gone! That is truly devastating!
I used my emails as a file on its own. If I would have known about that, I would have prepared myself, but Windows did it without my consent!
It's like losing your family pictures in a fire; they are gone forever! What Microsoft is thinking! They want us as slaves by destroying our most precious memories!
The value is not measurable; no amount of money in a civil action suit can ever compensate. What would you do?
This I called gross criminal negligence, a major emotional blow of grand proportion.
I had a discussion few hours ago with my friend neighbor, and was and still is very very sad about it. He tried everything to recover his emails, and paid his computer store for two days but they couldn't recover them either!
This is no good, no good @ all. Some pictures are from my grand mas, my nieces, the babies of my nieces and brothers and sisters and friends.
Plus all the other travelling ones. My email is extra important, and now Microsoft took all of that away from me, and they never asked me!
I won't swear in the forum, but in my mind I am. They simply took control of my life!
Check for Windows updates.
As I recall there were a number of updates required after I installed Windows 10.
Click on the icon with three lines in it on the lower right hand side of your desktop next to the time and date.
Go to All Settings, then click Update and Security, then click Check for Updates.
