The only place I don't use Kuro to connect equipment to equipment is between 3012R to phono. The original cable works superbly imo. But interested people should be aware that not all second hand 3012R come with original phono cable.

Dante. These Tedeska carts (https://www.tedeska.com/products/stereo/) models are even more confusing than the vdh. Which one catch your ears most. And where do the stand price wise. Mounting is sme spu?

Kind regards,
Tang
Dear Tango.
I do not have any commercial interest, Mr. Hyun Lee of Tedeska -designer and owner- is my old friend. He is Korean and stablished in Berlin 25 years ago. He studied classical guitar in Germany and developed whole his professional carrier there. His reference for audio is German vintage sound. He loves Neumann, Siemens Klangfilm, Malotzky transformer and amps, and EMT. I can see that your sound reference is Lyra Atlas SL which is not shared by Lee. So I do not recommend you Tedeska stereo. His sound is vintage modified or upgraded. Maintaining vintage soul and nuance, he improves up all deficiencies of vintage sound. He concentrates to get customer satisfaction and feedback, in my case, I purchased his mono cartridge more than 10 years ago and each time when he upgraded the engine and design, he modified my cartridge without any extra charge. If I broke the cantilever or if I need to change the diamond, of course, I have to pay but all upgrade was free until now. He is honest and he will adapt to your needs.
Forget all Tedeska models from his web site, just send a message to him, explain what is your sonic reference, which kind of sound do you like, which kind of TTs do you have, which kind of tonearm, etc... and please try first a mono cartridge. Normally he produces SPU Type A or G cartridge, but also he can manufacturer according to your TT and your tonearm. He hand made each cartridge and normally you have more than 2 months of waiting. He takes his time, but he is a combination of musician taste, strict german engineering and samurai discipline. As he made each cartridge using Amazonian Rosa Palisandro wooden block, each cartridge is unique and different. I can see your cartridge porn and how deep and large it's your experience in analog world but I am sure that you will love it.

Hi Dante,
I am a big fan of Mono, using several carts on the R-80 and other tables.
On the R 80 I am using the first ever built SME with a bakelite EMT OFD-25 playing through a true mono Miyajima SUT enabling matching input and output coils in the best way posssible. Going this path the Mono signal (one side) will be transported on both channels without need pressing the Mono button at the preamp.

a monoraul step up transformer on which you can regulate gain impedance in this way realizing the ideal frequency balance. Stereo is changed to monaural. This is the ultimate Mono-SUT for everyone seriously working with Mono Vinyl especially when you are using true mono carts like the old bakalite monos of EMT and Ortofon.

Wow... really I never hear about this kind of solution. This is totally new for me. Many tks to share this information. I will investigate.
I'm a classical music fan and really I love to listen to string instruments -violin, cello, etc...- and dark german lieders in mono LPs.
During long time I have used different vintage SPU mono carts with 6 or 7 grams of weight... I can see that you are really mono fanatic.
And which kind of Phono EQ are you using? Original EMT 139 maybe??

Yes, the cable coming with the tonearm sounds great, but it is not easy to know exactly what the "original" R series cable is, as I have seen two types of different "original" cables, both coming from SME boxed arms. Although apparently they look similar, having SME connectors with gold surfaces and gold ground forks , on closer inspection they are made from different wires. Unfortunately the cables jackets are not labeled.

As far as I see - please correct me if I am wrong - the 30XX R series overlapped in time the SME series 3. Did they share the same cables?

We both need cartridgeholics anonymous, been aggressively buying vintage mm's for the past several months!

David,
What's your current favorite vintage MM? I've been enjoying my NOS Signet TK-7SU a lot lately.

*note the stylus guards should be removed for playback, not just pushed out of the way.

I'm still mostly collecting and haven't done much listening but for now the 80's and 90's Technics mm's are my favorite.

Dante, I have two 139 Monos (with some new caps) built together.
With the Miyajima trans you can do true Mono with every phono preamp.

But not with every cartridge ! There are still matching issues to consider.
david

of course, you need to match input and output coil. This is the philosophy of transformers, two coils looking at each other - in nearly same parameters. You also have planned mismatches, which is a very nice philosophy and excellent working as well. Welcome to the world of transformers. Nothing more interesting than that chapter. You can improve your phono chains by using and understanding the right transformer matching.

Yes, but in the end you have to use your ears or measurement instruments and test LPs - in general manufacturers do not supply us technical information enough to match a cartridge to a transformer.

Microstrip,
There will be a new book in English describing the matching of transformers and even more some interesting insights into phono-chains and handling of carts etc. It will be published around Xmas.

IME the only way to know is by listening, I have over 30 SUT's of various vintages and sources and I never found any commonality in sound between the numbers and the outcome. Even buying a cartridge manufacturer's supposedly matching SUT is a guarantee and more often than not they sound worse than the generic one in my phono stages, at least to my ears. The most success I've had is having custom SUTs built for some of my favorite or hard to match cartridges.

The best Performance i ever hear is the first version of Brakemeier Apolyt.
The dynamic is incridible, one note from a piano and you know you listen to a special turntable.
He conveys quietly in the background of the music, you really have to hear it. definitely a lasting memory forever.
