It's not 'uber' expensive @ $3,999 MSRP, it has the latest refinements in HDAM modules, latest DACs from AKM (Verita 32-Bit), Dolby Atmos 3D surround sound decoder, optional Auro-3D surround sound decoder, and upgradable to DTS:X 3D surround sound decoder and to HDMI 2.0a with HDCP 2.2 for true UHD (4K) switching and pass-thru. ...And few more features.

That's the first review I saw online...more to come...from Kal Rubinson's own review (Music in the Round - Stereophile), and also from Kris Deering (Secrets of Home Theater and High Fidelity).

I am shopping for a new pre/pro myself with the latest 3D elevated surround sound experience, and I have been following it all since when introduced back in June 2014 with first Dolby Atmos for the home theater.

Anyway, that review just came out online today, and I have been following the progress of that Marantz AV8802 since its very first inception.
...Perfect place to discuss for people who are into a higher "elevated" sound experience with their movies, and music too.

I have heard their Dolby Atmos, older version. I am a big fan of immersive. An ideal set up for those who love cone speakers is to have a TT for 2-ch, and that extended to an immersive MCH set up, with the same channel same as the L and R

That 8802a unit tested in that review also includes DTS:X - they tested it too! ...First time...with DTS Neural:X (up-mixer) for music listening.

Yes Mike. :b

I've never owned a home theatre receiver. Always used a PC with multichannel sound card. I'm gonna set one up good once day soon though. I'll probably use my Intel NUC, and multichannel DAC, paired with active speakers.

If one gets small good bookshelves like Evolution Acoustics MicroOne and sets it up with subs and a Immersive processor like this one, that system will be impossible to beat except with a great horn. A TT can easily be added to that set up for 2-ch.

Johnny come lately here but having had mine for now about a year or so...its an upgraded model with all internals fully shielded plus fuse upgrades etc. I like it, and am waiting for installation from 5.0 to 7.2.4 speaker config to really put it into its element. Then can imagine upgrade to something like this: http://hometheaterhifi.com/reviews/...asablanca-iv-surround-sound-processor-review/. I match it with the MM8077 and that's ok for now also. My wife and friends say wow, and please stop upgrading its already fab...but the bug has bit, so on goes my journey. Interestingly once and a while I get a shock...when someone plays an amazing sound source, even from YouTube esp. advertising where they maximize sound stage and mutlichannel presentation, just how good the system can sound. Then it goes from fab to wow! But that's rare...but it does show how important source is.

Thanks mate. Both good suggestions along with the Datasat rs20i that is well reviewed.
Somehow I really want for better source materials along with better DACS mixers/processors then of course cables and speakers.
Right now I am wonder how much better a proprietary DAC say Total DAC MBL or other top models is against the embedded DAC chips inside my Marantz. I guess most would say significant differences and there are specialist DACS from Chord Veracity Naim etc. to dream of and test out. Not much chance in these parts though the Middle East isn't awash with dealerships.
