would not fit my speakers and am poor at the min but i was thinking about you guys not me. i think it would work it would be good. maybe a little tweek by mr.mook would be needed to make it more effective for speaker aplication in terms of freq but still worth asking him about it.

i use something else but will give them a spin when funds allow.

thanks for the insite.

Do you currently use any special footers or cones or devices of this nature for your components? Do you have a fancy rack?

was not talking about eliminating.. did i say that? as you say its about making sure the nasty is not stored or allowed to increase at undesirable freq and in undesirable locations.
Last post from me I promise, the Mooks are meant to be resonators but they don't resonate, if you want to add resonance think about the construction of violins, cellos ,double bass etc.

Can you hear them?
It takes a lot of energy to make a solid object resonate, placing on top of a loudspeaker won't be enough.
As an experiment place a half filled wine glass on top of your loudspeaker ,does the water ripple?
Keith

You lied. Previous one was to be your last post

Hi Keith,

Many objects in our room resonate especially when the wick is turned up. I think it is a matter of how much energy is thrown at them.

On another note - not sure if you are a sceptic of this or not - have you ever plonked all your gear on a cheap glass hifi rack and listened? Ever tried a granite plinth under a speaker?

"Everything resonates you just need to find the frequency." Purite Keith (2015). Lol.

not a fan of granite.. bamboo bill bamboo :D

Will have a dabble with bamboo, Spaz. Bamboo kitchen worktop is fairly cheap so might make a decent plinth for experimentation...

Everything does resonate, but it does need excitation, the question is , do pieces of wood resonate enough to become audible when placed on top of a loudspeaker?

Hi Keith,

I can't be bothered to "pomposithise" over matters of audio physics I am not trained in. I am not a specialist in this area. I could provide some pseudo-intellectual babble but it won't be of any value.

As someone who has spent much of his life playing music, obviously I think these pieces of wood indeed resonate sympathetically in my room as I would not buy them.

A hifi dealer friend of mine who sells Stillpoints and comes over here relatively often to be honest came to install my Kuzma TT. Anyway, he returned a week later and asked whether I had changed the positioning of the speakers as the central image had locked in compared with the week before. I laughed and said look behind your head - I had placed 3 discs behind the seat at the central image and noticed this myself but he confirmed it. My cats knock my disc holders now and again and I only realise when I notice something not quite sounding as it should. I know you think it is all foo and that is fine. I have been open to try things including dsp, which I also have indulged in. This does something that dsp doesn't. I also have a full set of GIK panels that I have carefully placed by listening and measuring.

I also firmly believe that if you dsp a speaker to have the same frequency response in one highly treated absorptive room and the other being a conservatory surrounded by glass, that whilst the frequency response measurements would be identical since you dsp'd them that way, that the glass room would sound less good due to the harsh resonance of glass.

I suppose it's not a good time to also mention that 'stilpoints ' don't work either?
The conditions of my parole stipulate that I am not allowed to post in any tweak thread, but I would be delighted to discuss anything in the measurement section.

They work, but to me don't sound as good. They do different things. Everything you place will do different things. You can put glass or granite. The ebony in mooks work the best to the people on this thread who like them

re stillpoints
they change the sound.. some people like it. i dont. not the thing to put under speakers for sure imo.
There is no physical mechanism for Stillpoints or any other 'cup and ball ' device to change the sound, they are not isolators at all but direct couplers, exactly the same as a spike.
If you want to isolate or decouple, then you need a material such as Sorbathane, open cell rubber, visco elastic materials can actually absorb vibration, so the bottom surface moves but the top surface doesn't.
BE718 is the man to ask, he is an expert in vibration transmission and measurement.
Keith.

No question that Stillpoints alter the sound of components and speakers IME

Hi Keith,

There is probably not a lot of point discussing any further because I believe and love what I hear and you think it is foo so the conversation would be somewhat daft.

I am trying to make a deliberate point for 2016 of not getting into any exchanges of this ilk as I can't be arsed :D. The WigWam got so extremely boring for this reason.

ok thanks keith.
they do seem to alter sound on speakers vs spikes. i dont like either. they dont behave just like spikes imo.if anyone is reading this please dont stick a load of sorbathane under your kit lol.
Isolating loudspeakers, proper isolation not cup and ball can be useful, isolation would ameliorate the transmission of vibration ,which might be useful if you lived in an upstairs flat.
Direct coupling will transfer any vibration directly into the floor and joists and onwards....
Keith.
