So Animas have always been one of my top 3, but I have previously heard it with Modwright gear, and as it is a 109db horn, wanted to hear it with lower powered valves. So went to Paris yesterday, and wow. I have never heard music as live as this. Best reproduction of orchestra and Jazz, great on vocals. This, along with another horn that I had demoed in Berlin, mentioned in my Horn Porn III thread (http://www.whatsbestforum.com/showt...-tour-III-JBL-awesome-Western-Electric-Berlin), are my ultimate dream speakers, topping the Analysis Amphitryon.

As you can see below, the color he had chosen for his wood was atrocious, but you can get really high WAF wood. Anyway, he had this almost 250lb integrated valve amp called Aries Cerat Diana, which sounded brilliant. Bigger than a Krell. We used the Eera Stanton to play CDs and then compared it to the Verdier Platine turntable. With this speaker as the ultimate goal, I can stick to 2-ch without trying to buy an Auro 3d type corrector-processor.

Very live room, without treatment, yet sounded great. I have heard these in three different rooms now sounding great - yesterday with this gear, previously with Modwright, and once with, err, two Devialet monoblocks

That's got to be one challenging room, Bonzo. If the Animas can sound good there, I tip my hat. They'll stay on my radar.

Anyone know any more about Aries Cerat? Have been reading up and am most curious about their designs...they certainly seem to be going over the top with high quality designs, chips, parts and the word on the street is positive so far. Thanks for any insights. Intrigued by their DAC and their Contendo Reference speakers...by the way, to understand the scale of this speaker, the red horn is 4 feet across and the tower sub to the left has 2 15" cones.

Thanks...let me know what you think. Their reference speaker which i refer to is Eur250K+. Everything they do is pretty OTT, but i am intrigued by their description of their DAC. Look forward to your comments.

Stavros,

Many thanks for joining WBF. Your equipment is fascinating, and while i am completely "non-tech", i have spoken with a few more technically knowledeable people who have been quite impressed with your designs. Is it possible to hear your equipment in UK?

Bonzo did you get a chance to listen to the Contendo speakers or any other Aries Cerat gear? I would love to read your opinion or those of other forum members, thanks.

Thank you for your reply bonzo, the Symphonia speakers sound phenomenal on the videos I´ve seen of them, so I can only imagine they will be much better in person, the top of the line Contendo Reference speakers must be something really special too.

That's got to be one challenging room, Bonzo. If the Animas can sound good there, I tip my hat. They'll stay on my radar.

The potential problem is having the speakers too close together. Otherwise they have high directivity so their proximity to walls and size of the room as a factor is diminished to the point a pair of bookshelves would be harder to get to sound better in the room. On the same accord if the tweeter was a horn and the mid and bass were very large cones it would also have high directivity and interact better than a pair of bookshelves. For example Geddes speakers despite being huge monitors would integrate easier than bookshelves as well. The type of speaker that plays the hardest to integrate is one that uses a lot of small drivers. Von Schweikert's VR-11SE /MK2 would be a prime example of a harder to integrate speaker for that reason. But if you've got the room and capability to integrate it in, as so many here know, you get one hell of a good performance.

The way it works with driver size is the smaller the driver the more it disperses, and the larger the more it beams. This is frequency dependent too. For example a tweeter that was 1mm would disperse all over, but at the 25mm we're use to they beam a certain amount - especially in the 16-20khzish range.

You would be surprised on just how small of a room you can get the VR-11 SE MkII's to integrate in lol. That speaker has more adjustment controls than any other speaker I am aware of.

I assume that comes with a grain of salt since you need, what, like 10ft ceilings for tip height?

Definitely interesting to hear feedback on their Contendo Reference. A somewhat different 4-tower reference system.

Lol

10ft would be nice:)

Right after Axpona Damon and I visited a gentleman who owns the second pair of VR-11's built. Both of us were in shock and awe when we entered the house and saw the listening position only 4ft back from the speakers. I was shocked to hear them like this and was quite surprised. But it was funny how Damon and I kept migrating behind the listening chair.
