I would like to ask my friends on this forum that if a passive crossover of a speaker is made external what advantages does one get.

1. Potentially less vibration from the speakers

2. Potentially better parts, particularly some parts that might be better but also too large to fit inside a cabinet. It's surprising for example how different capacitors with the same values can be as far as size goes. Same can be said for different inductors.

3. Ease of upgradability and ease of maintenance/repair can also be a benefit in the long run. Modding too. No need to send entire speakers back to the factory in the former, no need to remove drivers when it comes to the latter.

I did say "Potentially" so I guess I'm safe :D

Hypothetical: a speaker you want needs a thick 7 inch coil of 10 AWG copper for best bass performance [low pass inductor] - would you want to know that you really received that nice THICK wire 10 AWG inductor or maybe you received a scrawny 20 AWG inductor [cost a lot less -easy to make yourself].
