I sent my deck back to Greg Beron for some upgrades:

1) Repro preamp upgraded to Phase 12:
The Phase12 also has no capacitors in the signal path at all, no other tape deck has that. It is cutting edge technology that was never dreamed of on 40 year old tape decks.
It also has numerous changes to further refine the preamps into the latest Phase12 design
2) Vari-EQ: allows boost or cut +- 4 dB for Hi-EQ. The knobs are calibrated so at the 12:00 position (5 on knob), the EQ is standard flat. This will come in handy for hot or rolled tapes.
UHA Vari-Q settings:

Rotation of the EQ pots will reduce, or increase,
the 10K + EQ. The corresponding numbers on the faceplate to the EQ changes are indicated below:

(# 5) on the dial (12 o'clock) = 35usec IEC Flat Response.
Rotation of the knobs will change the high frequency EQ as indicated below.

1.) Counter Clock Wise adjustment will
reduce high frequency EQ (-)
(# 4.5 on dial) = -.50 db
(# 4.0 on dial) = -1.0 db
(# 3.5 on dial) = -2.0 db
(# 3.0 on dial) = -2.6 db
(# 2.5 on dial) = -3.4 db
(# 2.0 on dial) = -4.0 db

2.) Clock Wise adjustment will
increase high frequency EQ (+).
(# 5.5 on dial) = +.50 db
(# 6.0 on dial) = +1.0 db
(# 6.5 on dial) = +2.0 db
(# 7.0 on dial) = +2.6 db
(# 7.5 on dial) = +3.4 db
(# 8.0 on dial) = +4.0 db

3) Scrape Flutter Roller: This has a ruby jeweled bearing and replaces the stock record head which was only used for the tape path as a guide.

4) Signal Grounding mod:
The grounding device is about 3” long and 1" in diameter, it has a real silver core and also silver wire.
It is installed on the output grounds of the preamp signal path and in layman's terms it scavenges and dissipates noise directly from the signal path.

The benefits are as follows:
A.) There is more purity in the frequencies, we noted this in the highs, mids and down to the lows as well.
B.) Better sound staging, things seem more 3D and we also noted lots of movement / activity in the sound stage.
C.) Even though the sound stage was perceived to be larger and certainly deeper the instruments seemed more focused and delineated in that larger and more active sound stage.
5) (LED) VU meter lights
