Hi Gents,

I have the 2008 RVG Remaster of Red Garland's Groovy. I came across a Japanese-made K2 20bit Remaster and a Japanese-made SHM-CD of the 2008 RVG Remaster.

I have found great improvements in remasters from the likes of Steve Hoffman, DCC, MFSL, Verve, K2, FIM and APO. I do find the RVGs can be better than the originals.

Are these likely to be any better than what i've already got? Thanks for any advice.

From what I know
K2HD's are a remaster
SHM is a process in manufacturing the cd's, an actual remaster may not have occurred. Some research needs to be done to verify if one was done.

Thanks for taking the time...its not the most talked about remaster out there.

From everything i have read, the Japanese did a DSD transfer from their own tapes in 2011. There is an SHM of that one which is great apparently...but no redbook layer.

The SHM CD i am looking at is apparently the 2008 RVG i already have.

The K2 remaster gets mixed reviews, so i am hedging on that one.

Meanwhile, I found an XRCD which people have said is quite good and managed to get one at a 'half decent' price for an album that has long stood as one of my favorites for 25 years. Some go for 3 digits which is way out there for me...particularly for this album, tho i admit to having splurged before. Just picked it up on Amazon from a reliable seller in Japan. We shall see.

the bold one is the only XRCD i can find, and I am hoping this is the one i got...there was a 3-digit price for one and one for about a third the cost, also XRCD from Japan but no picture. We shall see...

Update...think i got it right...by cross-checking across multiple sites and sources of information, i got 2 serial numbers for the proper XRCD along with a date May 21, 1998...looks like the date of the XRCD of the one i got...B00005GWOJ...is the same. So may have managed to get the 3-digit cost XRCD for about a third of the cost. whew! hope i am right!
