1926 Western Electric Turntable 2A
http://itishifi.blogspot.com/2010/04/1926-western-electric-turntable-2a.html

This is the first 33 1/3 turntable used for radio and movies.

Question: Would the drive look something like this?

bevelled gear

....................OR a worm gear?

Any modern tables out there using this sort of drive?

Wow, this thing looks like the axle of a truck!
George i don't think that anyone today uses this type of drive and probably
in the specific one the gearing would be something as simple as in your picture.
In fact 99% of the turntables used today are belt driven.
Very few are "direct drive" (although i sense an uprising of the direct drive trend)
and about a handful use other means of platter movement (magnets / air).
BUT that's a fine piece of musical history!

You never know, the antiquarians might make this all the rage and declare it the "new best"!

If anything, this historic design should dispel any sort of preconception that separate three footed isolated pods for tonearm, motor and TT spindle/plinth is anything new.

It's looking more like a worn drive, which is a smooth operator from everything from Ford GT superchargers to garage door openers.

Please see my other auctions for more audio items I'm clearing out. This auction is for a 1930s gear-box used for going from a 1180/1200 rpm Western Electric motor to 33.3rpm. It is in great condition and turns freely by hand. Just attach a motor and turntable and you are ready to go. A matching Western Electric motor is also available if needed. Thanks for taking a look.

Total weight is about 30 lbs.
