Yamaha did this in the late 70's and early 80's, so interesting, but something done before, and not the first as claimed
 
Would anyone be surprised if that's eventually done within the cartridge?

If we're looking at a 1v output I'm pretty sure it could be done today, power supply being external of course. No idea how a shrunken gain stage would stack up against one without any size and weight constraints. Never say never.
 
Think tiny battery, micro electronics, 3-5dB gain, enough to overcome loses. And trade some of the cartridge's shell to balance off the extra weight.
 
Absolute Phono headshell has been out a few years now.Anyone have first hand experience?
