Speaker grill impact for drivers below 2,000hz

Hi all,

Something I'm playing with on my MBL's.

Any objective evidence / subjective observations that grills or covers have any sonic impact for drivers that reproduce 2,000hz and below?

I tested this on my revel speakers and these are the results:

As you see the difference starts to kick in around 600 Hz or so for some video screen material and 1.5 Khz for Revel's own grill. Whether the same would be true of yours depends on distance from the grill to the tweeter.

If the speakers were designed with using the grill in mind, you will be listening to a brighter sound than was designed.

Good point Gary. Thank you.

Amir, the MBL 116's have "pods" that take care of everything above 2K. There are no grills influencing the pods.

My question is directly related to the mid bass / bass dynamic drivers that produce sound below 2K.
