It is exciting how the Standard Model is more and more confirmed, with the Higgs Boson as the last Grand Prize, so to speak, but also with discoveries like the one at hand. I watched the fascinating episode 'Big Bang Machine' about the LHC and the discovery of the Higgs boson on Nova; if you can catch a rerun, go for it. You can also watch it here:

I don't believe, however, that supersymmetry will be found, even with the upgrade to twice the energy which is now finished -- many proponents are already nervous that nothing has been found so far. But if supersymmetry is out the window, then it becomes difficult for string theory as well, at least if I understand correctly.
