I heard that the venerable DAC 8 from Audio Research is discontinued, and that a new DAC, which is (finally) DSD compatible will replace it.

This is all I heard.

anybody has some more news ? (availability date ? specs ? picture ? price...)

thanks

Paragon in Ann Arbor is having their second of four events tomorrow evening. At a "Evening of Fine Sounds" Part 1 David Gordon, Managing Sales Director of Audio Research, and Brandon Lauer, Director of Marketing, will be there presenting the new G! Series products, including: the GS150 Power Amplifier, the GSPre Preamplifier, and the GSi75 Integrated Amplifier. I can ask about the DAC 9 if you would like.

The Paragon event sounds like a good one. Let us know what you find with the new ARC G series. I really like the asthetics of it. Just Not sure how if fits in comparison to their Reference Series products. I really like the sound of their Ref 10 preamp.

I asked David Gordon about a successor to the DAC8. There is nothing in the pipeline at this time but there will be something in the future. In the near term they are planning on a board that will handle DSD for the REF DAC.

thanks for the info.

Will this board allow to upgrade all existing Ref DAC to DSD, or is it a new version of the Ref DAC (in other words, for DSD compatibility, do we need to wait or not to buy a Ref DAC ?)

Did they mention some time frame for this DSD board ?

thanks

As I understood his response the current units will be upgradable. You will not have to purchase a new DAC.
