Steve's Music and video choices

Over the past several years I have shared with the membership many videos done by my son who you might remember is a film school graduate whose biggest goal in life is to make movies.

Well you might ask what this has to do with music?

In May 2013 my son released a video on Craft Beer that he called Hopumentary.

In this video he edited in the music of a young and upcoming Post Rock group out of San Francisco called Broken Cities

www.brokencities.com

Some of the band and production crew are old Apple employees who my son knew from when he worked at Apple. The band as a result provided royalty free music to my son

It has always been my son's desire to write, produce, direct and edit post production a music video. As a result in return to the band my son spent on doing the following music video. I have no idea what Post Rock is but this song was certainly quite interesting. Perhaps Johnny Vinyl can help as our in house expert unless Ron Party beats him to it

At any rate for a kid of 28 who wants to make movies, I thought this foray into music video was pretty good. He did everything including directing the film crew as there were many cameras rolling. He funded the whole thing with $9K of his own money. It is filmed entirely in HD and the entire video is color corrected. He is behind the camera. All actors were professionals

I hope you enjoy both the music and my son's video

Steve...thanks so much for posting this!!!! Your son is very talented.

I like the music by Broken Cities. Epic, soundtrack stuff.

Some coincidences! My cousin has worked at apple for 12 years, and my brother in law is movie production.

That's a good way of describing a lot of Post Rock. It's basically instrumental rock with a de-emphasis on any solo guitar, drum, organ, etc. highlights. Rock without the toe-tapping energy perhaps? Instrumental Prog?

There is a different kind of energy...it is more of a mind trip. Toe Tapping for me is a bit of a cliche..I cringe when I read that in HiFi reviews...reminds
me of some dude sitting in plush chair with a tweed jacket, smoking a pipe, listening to big band music. :D;)

I really enjoyed the suspense of "Beyond the Lightning. Void."
