Hi,

I will be moving from Illinois to New Jersey at the end of the month, and I need to move 2 Wilson Sophia 2 speakers and a Macintosh amplifier. Can anyone recommend a moving company that will be careful with the equipment?

Thanks in advance!

Mike

Rent a truck hire a driver and helper buy a ton of foam and pack it good dive it out. Shipping companies are high priced with low wage guys working for them better to pay a driver you trust rent the van or truck get or rent handcarts ramps and all that is needed. Two good guys for two or three days rent and fuel is not the end of the world. Pay to get it done right cheapest thing in the world is the wages of two good men.

Do you have original crates for speakers and amp?

I agree. If you have these it's a simple task to disassemble the speakers and box them and your amp and let your movers do it. Why do you want a separate trucker

the golden rule of gear IMO is to always store the crates and manuals. I doubt if WA will rent you crates but they will sell them to you

Thanks, Steve. I was just a little concerned that movers will not be sufficiently careful. I will buy the crates.

Unfortunately those crates won't come cheap Mike and you'll have to pay the shipping charge from WA to you

With a separate truck you can pack them with foam I have used inner tubes to fill voids between objects or more foam as long as nothing can touch the truck or each other you are golden. The problem with freight companies is the package often changes trucks forklifts are unforgiving . The cost of the crates may or my not be a factor you can always build wooden crates packed with foam what ever you do good luck and be ready to make a claim take photos before they are packed and photos in the boxes. Better to have photos and not need them than need them and not have them. Not trying to scare you I just move a lot sculpture work in stone heavy expensive and easy to break. Get more packing than you need and be ready for that not to be enough.

It really shouldn't be too much. Six crates for the Evolution Acoustics MM3's only cost $800

I have shipped large speakers from Wash DC to califorina and audio gear all over the world. I can recommend "Direct Distribution" out of Balimore MD. I paln on using them to ship my Scaena speakers. Ask for Bob Devoe.
