Wishing all my friends on WBF a very healthy, happy and prosperous New Year.

2014 is year 4711 on the Chinese calendar and the year of the Fire Horse in the traditional 60-year cycle. While China adopted the Gregorian calendar in 1929, we still use the Chinese or Lunar calendar for traditional and cultural events. The most important of these is the Chinese New Year - a period of rest, reunion and rejuvenation.

Are you sure about that Gary? The long treks that some Chinese have to make via train to make it back to their village has to be stressful. Throw in the gifts/money they are supposed to bring when they get there and the questions/pressure they will have to face when they return home if they are still unmarried and I think you have the American Christmas pressure felt by everyone amped up by a factor of 10x. The common theme I hear from lots of people every year at Christmas time is "I can't wait for it to be over" and after Christmas "I'm so glad it's over." I don't know if there is a Chinese equivalent of that or not.

Having said all of that, thank you for the greeting and well wishes and may the year of the fire horse bring us all good luck.
