You think this is why they are calling this "major" news conference on 9/28/15? They actually found water? NASA is set to announce a 'major science finding' from its exploration of Mars on Monday morning.

Very fascinating. The other day I heard a lecture that said it is still a possibility that the magic combination of elements that led to life may have just come together on earth. Kind of depressing if true. Hate to think Star Trek was all fiction. :D

Unlikely, but I wouldn't possibly know. I hope the press conference is about some new Earth-like exoplanet, like that Kepler one they announced a while ago.

EDIT: it's being reported that NASA's announcement will be about Mars; therefore what I just said couldn't be any more wrong. Or in other words, you can tell a lot about the state of my investments.

I think they already know there was/is water on Mars. Now if they find a fossil, that would be a major science finding.

The rover may have come across a large highly polished symmetrical monolith emitting a single freq skyward. Then again it may have found a pin inscribed 'Ming was Here' :)

CNN is speculating that "It appears to be a confirmation of periodically flowing water on the planet's surface"...

The NASA headline reads "NASA Confirms Evidence That Liquid Water Flows on Today’s Mars"

The press conference talked about Recurring Slope Lineae, which are most probably caused by flowing water, but there are other possibilities as well. They also made the claim that, at some point, Mars may have had huge oceans, and that something happened and it lost its water.

Very cool.

I wouldn't like to live on Mars @ this time...but sending crews of forestry people (to plant some forests), then I would go and supervise. :b
And water is a main element of course for survival.

I don't know what to make of their finding, but it's for sure interesting to speculate from analysis and observation.

Our own planet, Earth, is the best place in the universe*...I think. :b ...It just needs some touch-ups here and there, that's all...mainly human-made stuff.

* According only to what small knowledge we have of it, of course.
