John, I've had both a PH3d & 20/20 in my system over the last year. his circuits are ultra simple and employs just two cascaded op amps/ch and few loading options apart from resistence and gain. The sound is 'soft' and pleasant but imo, ultimately lacked transparency compared to others at that price point. if you're set on a Sutherland you could get similar -- maybe identical --performance from a used accoustech ph-1 or Ph3d (both designed by Ron) and save a bundle.

John-I thought you were going for a tube phono section.

That's my preference yes (a tube unit), but I've heard many good things about the Sutherland stuff so I wanted to throw it out there.

And, out of curiosity, not advocating, has anyone heard the Puresound P10? It looks like it rings the right bells, and I don't think it is terribly expensive....
