In the new Absolute Sound I see an ad for the new Marten Coltrane Supreme 11. The old model was either loved and proclaimed the best ever ( I have a couple of a'phile friends who swear it is the best) or was decried as being bloated and ill-defined and too analytical. ( I have never heard it, BUT I believe Steve and a few others have....not to their liking).
Anyhow, we have some new hyperbole in this ad..."Simply, the Coltrane Supreme 2 has a sound quality so genuine that in our state-of-the-art studio, distinguishing between recorded music and reality is not possible".

Accuton ( the driver manufacturer) has in partnership apparently developed a new driver for this speaker that has "incredibly low distortion, in the magnitude of electronic devices, even at high levels"

Then: " The carbon fibre sandwich cabinets are the most rigid and resonance free ever produced"

The result...The new Master!:D:D

No mention of price:rolleyes:

I'm not sure how a speaker can be "bloated and I'll-defined" as well as "too analytical"??

Like I said, I haven't heard this speaker. OTOH, the people who I have talked to who have heard the speaker, either love it or hate it. ( Hate too strong a word...dislike it).
Perhaps Steve ( I believe he is the only one on this forum that I have talked to about the speaker) would like to comment here as he apparently has heard it...and did not like it much.

I'm not familiar with this brand per se, but I saw a pic of them advertised in TAS this month. I think I would be very happy with them by appearance alone. I bet they sound amazing.

I have 2 friends who own the Marten Coltrane Supremes (1). The first swears by them and finds them the ultimate in resolution and truth...I think he is going for the Supreme 2 now. The other has, I sense, been working for a while on getting the Supreme 1s to suit him and not necessarily been totally satisfied to date. The latter friend has an ear/set of tastes I know quite well, and I think it seems they have extraordinary detail (perhaps unbeatable levels of clarity and detail)...but perhaps they feel a bit less organic than his other systems. And that seems to be something he has continued to search for as he has been adjusting the rest of the system around them.

"Ill-defined and analytical." "Adjusting the rest of the system around them." It boggles the mind, really. The mind is boggled.

I noticed they're using pass labs and not EAR amps for the CES debut, either Dan took a back seat on that decision or they changed distributors (?). ive heard the small Martens at Dan's and at shows, they are superb I can only image how good the supreme IIs might be.
