I can see four large tubes through the top cover.
...I bet those get quite hot when the music get serious; and that would "brownish" the top cover (in & out), just above those tubes, no doubt about it.

I would love to see a picture showing the internals.

One of the caps at bottom left, with the main transformer right next to it.
...And covered with a metal box on top (part of the overall internal top cover).

* Is this a dual mono design? ...One transformer for both channels, or two of them?

Has anyone heard these newer amps from Zanden? Curious as to how they compare with the 9600 monos.

J.Valin is testing 8120. From the 2014 High-End Audio Buyer's Guide: "A genuine "find" the remarkable Zanden 8120 is so good it is one of JV's references."

Hi Marcus,

Have you heard how the new Zanden Choku amps from AE are? I have spoken with a few people who were recently in HK...I think they heard the Cessaro setup at AE with the Zanden Choku monos...except they did not A/B the amp against anything else. The main A/B I think was removing 1 Thor SE grounding cable from the new Emperor which was supposedly a real ear-opener for those who were there (as in, removing 1 cable really dropped performance).

Yes, I read AE forum regularly. Choku are supreme amps, no doubt about that, but 8120 is interesting because of the price and the performance isn't much compromised as said Mr. Yamada in the TAS (243) designer roundtable.

The model 6000 , is similar to the 8120 if I am not mistaken . Except that the 6000 is an integrated , whose pre amp section can be by passed ...100W class A/B

At the moment Model 8120 is the most powerful amp in Zanden's portfolio. I hope one day Mr. Yamada will build a mono version with at least 200W/ch...
How does the 8120 compare with the mono 9600 ?

Have heard these two amps only in different systems, so can not comment.
