In these days of magnetic tape revival, wouldnt it be a great moment for a modern designed r2r tape deck.

For example rockport or continuum doing the ultra silent low vibration mechanical /electrical drive system and boulder doing the high bandwith /ultra low noise record repro section.
I also think of a modern redesign of the heads for example.
As tape has capabilties digital will never achieve , in short a quest for the ultimate recorded /reproduced sound

with a MSRP of $499,000.00 it can be done.

Probably the cheapest parts on the machine would be the heads. JRF makes custom playback heads for ~$1k

I didnt say it would be cheap ,but in a world of 300.000 speakers 200k amps 150k turntables , thats the area where real gain can be made i bet you agree on that

Oh, I most certainly agree on this one. There have been a few manufacturers expressing interest in playback AND record electronics. Throw in the accuracy of a turntable manufacturer and the build of Rockport and you'll have something. I'd be the first in line, that's fer sure!

and recording, then the issue becomes -- sourcing high fidelity, prerecorded, analog tape media

Cool , the wave kinetics /dartzeel version maybe .

cl ferrari , with such a machine audiophiles could record their own piano music for example if they are exposed to real music , i bet i much rather hear that ,then lifeless overdubbed digital, blank tape isnt that expensive secondly it might lift overal recording quality
Working on it.

I encourage recording :p

Are you working on customizing a previously manufactured deck or are you starting from scratch ?

This will be a new machine from scratch.
