Today, went down to a studio that was closing down, moving and going totally digital, to facilitate a transaction for a friend buying one of their Studer A820 2 track R2R 1/2 inch decks. (they had just sold an Otari MX15 and had two A820 multitracks and a Sony M48 still sitting there!).

Being there got me to thinking about the "old" days where studios abounded. In the '60s, there were tons of studios scattered around NY. Then over the years, all the major labels such as Sony and RCA closed their studios down :( Today, home recording seems to be the "in" thing and all it seems to have accomplished other than providing more free d/l, is to degrade even further, the SOTA in recording technology.
