Anybody ever heard of Artemis speakers? They were made for a few months in the Dallas area circa '95/'96. I found a review in Stereopile (JA) which was hardly encouraging (it appears that they have one driver out of phase with the other). Overall the measurement part of the review was rather odd. Of course the "listening" review was, as usual, positive.

They are a two part speaker. The head unit appears to be a copy of a Wilson/Watt 3 or 4. The lower unit has a single 10" TC woofer in it.

I have been told (perhaps nothing more than digestive process by product) that the "box" was designed by Andy Payor (Rockport fame) and that Professor Johnson of Spectral thought they were great sounding. Also evidently Pacific Microsonics thought highly of them. As far as I can tell there were not more than a dozen or so sold during the lifetime of this product.

anybody have any information on this speaker? Ever recall hearing it or owning a pair? What do you think such a speaker is worth (cosmetics are good and it appears to be functioning - though a little "off" sounding)?

thanks

The reviewer was me (KR) and I was very positive about it. I longed for them for years as I could not afford it at the time. My wife still remembers them and how much she liked them (and this is from someone who generally doesn't even notice if I change speakers). All that said, they were the first big commercial speakers I ever had in my room, so I would love to experience them again.

P.S.: The phase issue was debatable because JA's measurements predicted something other than what I heard (and I did try them both ways).
