Wow. I was just watching The Hunt For Red October during lunch and stopped just a couple minutes ago. It was still brand new in the wrapper and I have never seen the movie. I love his books.

The first film from a series of four. ...For many people it's the best one (the film). ...I also like 'Clear and Present Danger' (third film),
and then 'Patriot Games' (second film). ...Last, 'The Sum of all Fears' (fourth one).

The Film Sequence was:

The Hunt For Red October : Sean Connery, Alec Baldwin, very good movie
Patriots Games : The Classic the absolute best film of this Series. Harrison Ford with Samuel Jackson in a relatively small but ip
Clear and Present Danger: Harrison Ford. Good but a little James Bondish
The Sum of All Fears: Morgan Freeman and Ben Affleck : Not too bad but .... meh ...

Yep, that was exactly my sequential order as well (I got the four of them on Blu).
...Just slightly different than yours in regard to the film's preference. But not much really because for me the first three ones are real good in their overall capture,
and each one of them has something interestingly alluring/gratifying in it. All great thrillers! ...The fourth one much less because our familiar hero unfortunately had been replaced by a second-rate actor of inferior caliber.

Sad news. He was 66 years old.

Red Storm Rising was my favorite.

That's very young.

+1

Was always disappointed never was made into a movie. OTOH, his books were always infinitely better than the movies :)

Mine too. Who can forget "The Frisbees of Dreamland" published long before anybody ever saw the stealth fighter.

He had his own tank. ...He was also part owner of a major baseball team.

And because of a vision's issue he could not enroll in the army. ...He wrote books instead.

And the FBI and the CIA thought that he had access to classified information from them organizations; he did not.
...Because of all the great details enumerated in his books.
