I started browsing Audiogon again now that I'm not getting virus warnings. Looking at the music section it seems like a joke compared to the old Audiogon.
First the prices people ask for common and slightly uncommon records is insane. I am seeing records that were pressed in the millions in conditions I would not buy start at $20 and up. These records might occasionally get bids for a buck or two on Ebay if they're in excellent condition. And I am seeing lots of out of print audiophile reissues for 4-5x what they normally sell for. IE a 4x 45 rpm Classic Records reissue of Time Out listed at $700. There is also a guy there listing hundreds of records using Tom Port's "hot stamper" buzz word. Before the software change I purchased a decent amount of vinyl off Audiogon. I even kept in touch with some private sellers who would email around spreadsheets to their regulars. Prices were fair or slightly on the high side, but you were guaranteed well graded copies.
And second, the number of new ads has gone down considerably. I can check early in the morning then late in the evening and there might be half a dozen or so new listings.
