How does it work with dished 200 gram classic records single sided 45 rpm lp's ? In the case of dish with the outer edges raised, does one need to press down the outer edge of the lp in order for it to hold it down tight during the vacuum hold down process ? I'm still a couple weeks away until I can try this for myself.
The outer vacuum collar is inside the raised LP perimeter. The central platter is a bit higher than the outside edge. No problems.
No need to push the LP down. The vacuum power is strong but it takes a few seconds to suck that baby down. It isn't instant. If you set the cart immediately after activating the hold down you will see the cart go steady in 15 seconds or so granted there isn't much eccentricity. In which case, the only "wobble" would be horizontal.
It's only a bit more pronounced on CRs. As far as I can tell practically all LPs have raised edges. I was told that they are designed in to protect the record surface when they are laid down. Unfortunately the side effect is that they cause ring wear on jackets if LPs are not stored vertically.
