I came across a few items that got my attention and thought to pass them on here:
These designs by NWavguy are meant to equal the performance (not the build quality) of Benchmark DAC/Pre / headphone amp

I've sent NWavguy a message inquiring if there are any plans to add a preamp out to the O2 +ODAC. If not it can easily be done DIY

assuming a pre-out option is offered without the need for DIY the above pieces combined with an Oppo are a complete system with remarkable performance for little money.
assuming fewer funds:
essentially an LS3/5A for the 21st century. Should have been an active design but that seems to be the only marketing-driven compromise

these are high-value Gainclone amps that could readily be used with the JDS unit above if/when pre-out function is available

computer or smartphone source (w/ future upgrade to Pure Music Server or Amara)

Stax electrostatic earspeakers with driver
Really good high-fidelity doesn't have to cost a lot, and I'd rather spend more money on music (software) than the system (hardware) to play it. I'm guessing many of you feel similarly.
