I packed away my BDP-83 player for the same reason. I have a Sony Player from the same period and it plays everything I play through it... I have since switched to the Samsung BD-J7500 Blu-Ray Player. It meets my basic needs... :)

Just do not use Brasso on any Silver fuse or silver male AC Plug... :D
For another sonic upgrade use Fo.Q TA-32 Tuning Tape on the Glass or Ceramic...
