We had an excellent portable audio event here yesterday called CanLanta 2013. One guy brought in the new X Sabre Matrix DAC which sells for $1,100. Unibody build quality where the compartments are...
Hope you are having a great day!
That's an idea.
Because the musicians we record mostly don't have DVD-Audio players, we carefully downrez to CDs for them. So for each 24/176 recording we do of these classical ensembles, we also hear a CD version...
I've heard the DSD comparison across a wide variety of DACs, not just the Sound Devices.
30% to 50% in my view/experience. I hear more width and depth to the soundstage and instrument realism is dead on at 24/176 or higher.
Thank you Orb. Very helpful.
Looking for 24/192 and 24/176 support. Would like DSD but not essential.
You are splitting hairs here. By definition you are throwing away all common implementations of PCM. I am less concerned about technical minutiae-I want to know what sounds best in practice and...
You are still downrezzing and that brings its own problems!
You are throwing away valuable musical data. You really need hirez to get the full event.
I was referring to Chesky being PCM format only back in the 90s when I was involved - all pre-DSD.
You misunderstand...my new record label uses the gear I mentioned, not Chesky Records. I learned the recording business while working with David Chesky and team in the 90s. I wish we had $30K+ for...
I think it is both the format and the implementation. Prolly more differences come from the latter though.
You are welcome.
My experience exactly. Well said Andre.
I have noticed this as well.
I learned recording from Chesky Records in a fully PCM environment (Katz and Kipnis were among the first hirez PCM pioneers). For my recordings (soon to be on...
Korg MR1000 for DSD and Sound Devices 722 and 744 for PCM. AKG 414 BULS mics.
Interesting suggestions.
I'm hearing good things about the T+A DAC8 as well. Any thoughts on that?
I've not read the entire thread but I can offer up one observation based on recording classical quartets and trios. We have split mic cable into both DSD and PCM boxes. The DSD more closely...
A good friend of mine and I are both looking for a new DAC in the under $3K range. I was wondering what folks here would suggest we look for in terms of features?
How important, relatively...
Now using Black Cat Lectraline (silver core) interconnects, Black Cat Neo-Morpheus speaker cable, and Shunyata power cords.
Bruce, I just installed an Oyaide GX+ outlet tonight and the grip is very tight!
+1.
I'm trying the new Lectraline solid core silver cables from Black Cat now. Chris has made interconnects for me but the speaker cable will be out sometime in January.
Have you heard the Airmotivs? :)
