    Most Respected Amplifier Designers

I own the SST Ambrosia 2000 Second Edition and SST Son of Ampzilla II amp. Best amp/preamp combo I have owned. Beats the ML 585 they replaced. Both SST products were designed by Mr. Bongiorno. After his death in 2016 Wyred4Sound bought the company. Thhe SST product line can be seen at...

    Roon Server - any good?

My small green computer i5 handles my 90000+ library while running Roon Core with ease. No speed issues at all.

    DAP and alternatives

Lumin and Aurender are the two you should look at. Aurender N100, X100L, N10 or ACS10 are very nice. Lumin D2, T2, or Lumin Mini. Some of the Lumin’s have built in DACs. None of the Aurenders do and they won’t work with Roon.

SoTM 200 Ultra Neo vs dCS Bridge

I have owned the Aurender W20, N10, the Lumin S1 and U1. I know own the network bridge and to say it blows away the Lumins and Aurenders makes no sense at all And it is obvious you haven’t heard a higher end Aurender or Lumin. I currently use the Network Bridge with a Debussy DAC.

    Paul McGowan Prefers Digital

Unfortunately many analogers have too much money tied up in their analog equipment, which limits their willingness to accept they can get better sound from digital at half the cost of their analog investment.

McIntosh C48, Internal DAC, and External DSD Digital Source

A little out of my budget. Probably consider the C47 instead since it has the same DAC as the C52

McIntosh C48, Internal DAC, and External DSD Digital Source

Thanks for the clarification. I obviously was wrong. The documentation on McIntosh's website confused me. I didn't realize that the JRiver application was converting the DSD to PCM. I understand now. I currently have an Auralic Vega between the SONY HAP and the C48 and I was hoping to sell...

McIntosh C48, Internal DAC, and External DSD Digital Source

The C48 can absolutely handle DSD, but I guess it depends on the source and whether the C48 is USB2 compliant. Jriver outputs DSD to the C48 which means the C48 can process a DSD stream as McIntosh states. My assumption is the C48 isn't USB2 compliant which means it could accept a DSD stream...

McIntosh C48, Internal DAC, and External DSD Digital Source

According to this excerpt from a document on McIntosh's website to help setup your PC/Apple computer running JRiver software the C48 can process DSD-DXD files. " Purpose of this Document: To add the capability of playing DSD-DXD file types over McIntosh 32/192 USB 2.0 DACs as used in C48...

McIntosh C48, Internal DAC, and External DSD Digital Source

I have my C48 connected to a Sony HAP-Z1 and outputting DSD (DOP) over a USB connection. When I try to play a DSD 64 or 128 file the C48 goes silent. It works fine when I play wav and FLAC files. I have had my Sony HAP connected to an Auralic Vega and had no problems with any DSD file. Of...
