Joseph Grado, Inventor, businessman and friend.. some memories

In 1973, I worked for a shop in LA called Delphi Custom Stereo and the owner, Marco Karpodinnes, was a big fan of Joe Grado, particularly his carts and I remember placing phone orders for them with Joe. I was all of 22 at the time. Just a few days ago I talked to his nephew about the new X...

    Upgrading Integrated Amp

You haven't mentioned what phone you have or budget but those speakers need a minimum of 25 watts which isn't much. I would suggest something like the Marantz PM6006 or PM8006 which both have great phono stages for most MM carts and are superb middling cost integrated amps. FWIW, in my living...

    Burn in

For you, the hobby is gear. For me, it's music.

    Burn in

So, OP, your aural memory is so good you remember how something sounded a week earlier compared to now?? Dang, you must have a helluva pair of ears!

    TECHNICS SL-1210MK7 IS A STATE-OF-THE-ART TURNTABLE

After 35 years, I was recently shopping for a new turntable to replace the Technics SL-QL1 I had in my main system (it went to my living room system). I was able to get a stupid good deal on the 1210GR from a company I do business with (accommodation pricing). It arrived the other day and I...

I seem to have run afoul of some sort of politics on Audiogon

I didn't even know audiogone was still around. Meh.

The more you spend on gear, the more you lose touch with the music!

I think you're spot on. I find reading a few audio forums affirms my belief that most audiophiles are more about the equipment than the music.

How Do You Listen-Grill Covers On Or Off

On always. I don't like the look of naked speakers and I can't hear any difference in any event. Life is much easier with silver ears instead of golden ears. ;)

    Internet Radio

As a jazz fan living in a rural state, Internet Radio has saved me. I love jazzradio.com for its variety of jazz genres but mostly listen to jazz24.org as it has a better quality stream at no charge.

What cables are you using in your system ?????

As I said, I'm an objectivist when it comes to audio and its many myths. There are many things that make sense to me but rules about what percentage of the system value one should spend on cables and cables being "danceable" are not one of them. But I know how contentious these cable...

What cables are you using in your system ?????

The OP used the term "believer" so I was simply acknowledging the term he used. I have heard and IMO they do not do anything more than the most basic of cables. I am very much an objectivist about audio claims and I've never heard a difference.

What cables are you using in your system ?????

Not a believer so I use some homemade and decent Monoprice and Radio Shack interconnects and 12 gauge speaker wire on my two systems. Then again, my systems are not expensive high end systems. I do like the look of Techflex covered cables and I'm sure that helps contribute to their sonic...

    A true audiophile

I thought it was a brilliant commercial and very amusing. Of course, I'd never buy equipment like the MBL stuff must cost.
